Jim received a Master’s Degree in geology in 1975 from the Univ. of New Mexico and conducted worldwide mineral exploration for major companies such as US Borax, RTZ, and Phillips Petroleum Company for many years. In 1998, he joined RE/MAX Commercial Investment in Scottsdale, AZ – and subsequently formed the Kasten Long Apartment Team. This team achieved national and international awards from RE/MAX Commercial – and between 2003 and 2008, was always ranked in the top five commercial teams for RE/MAX worldwide. In 2008, Jim formed the Kasten Long Commercial Group – still with a focus on apartments/investments. Over the past 22 years, the Team / Group’s agents brokered more than 1,200 apartment communities, in excess of $1 Billion in value.

The ethics, analytical process, and dedication that Jim learned in geology have permeated his career in commercial real estate. He has an intense dedication to knowing every aspect of apartment brokerage and an unequaled dedication to providing the best service possible for his clients. In addition to brokerage, Jim also provides apartment market research including providing the Metro Phoenix Apartment Owner’s Newsletter – quarterly since 1998. He has also served as an expert witness representing apartment owners and has been appointed by the Maricopa Family Court when spouses disagree on real estate matters.

Jim recently joined West USA Commercial. He knows and respects a number of their commercial agents and hopes to bring his values to their commercial division. The same apartment / Investment dedication will continue.
